'I, Animal’ is an emotional and reflective posthumanist poetry, hybrid creative writing and artwork collection, that takes you closer to the human-animal relationship.
Through words of compassion, sentience and social connection we will journey together to examine the question of our relationship to the planet and other inhabitant creatures. This journey is one of sorrow, beauty and hope. Revealing who we are as a species and our potential for a cohesive biosphere. It is about heart, it is about our humanity...and our animality.
From the very first poem we will consider ourselves through the animal lens. Of our preoccupation with animals as food and animals as products.
Fall into these words of hope, as we move together...examining the past, present, and our future evolution, as one global species...always capable of positive change.
Origin
Birthed in deep brown earth.
I share this air with you.
Creatures, we are.
Born of star dust.
Of blood and bone.
Animals, we are.
Gazing at moonlight.
Heartbeat thrum.
Wanderers, we are.
Nuzzling kin, in warmth
At midnight.
Sentients, we are.
Protected by herd.
Enfolded wings.
Arms that hold.
Souls, we are.
Origin,
Of animal and human.
Shared connection.
One, we are.
